Why upgrade to the Desktop App?
The web version is great for quick tasks. But browsers have real limits. Here is exactly why people who annotate PDFs seriously make the switch.
Your 200-page thesis won't crash this
Browser tabs have strict memory ceilings. Heavy PDFs slow them down and eventually kill them. The desktop app has no such limit. Open textbooks, dense schematics, research papers, and nothing dies.
Shrink PDFs by 80% without uploading anything
Most compression tools make you upload your file to a server you don't control. LeedPDF Desktop compresses entirely on your machine. Fast, private, and up to 80% smaller every time.
Set it as your default. Double-click and it just opens.
PDFs, Markdown files, LPDF files. Set LeedPDF as your default and they all open directly in the app. No browsers. No loading screens. It is just there, the moment you need it.
No more report_final_FINAL_v3.pdf
On the web, saving means downloading a new copy every single time. On desktop, Ctrl+S saves directly back to the original file. Your Downloads folder can finally breathe.
Use the fonts already installed on your machine
Browsers are sandboxed from your system fonts. The desktop app isn't. Every font on your Windows or Mac machine is available for text annotations, giving your work a professional look without extra steps.
Your files never leave your hard drive
Everything happens locally. No uploading, no syncing, no phoning home. Your documents, annotations, and exports stay entirely on your machine. That is not a marketing claim. It is just how the app works.
Every other PDF tool charges you rent
Adobe Acrobat. Xodo. Nitro. All subscriptions. LeedPDF Desktop is one of the very few PDF tools you can actually own. Pay once, it is yours. No renewal. No lock-in. No month where you forget and get charged again.
Every update we ship. Free. Forever.
When we add new features, fix bugs, or improve performance, you get it all automatically at no cost. The version you buy today is not the ceiling. It is just the starting point.
Buying this is literally how we survive
No investors. No ads. No selling your data. Buying the desktop app is the only source of income for this project. It is what lets us keep building, ship updates, and stay independent. We think that is a fair trade.

Installation help
How do I install the Windows app?
Download the installer and run it. LeedPDF will guide you through the setup process. The app installs to your Program Files directory by default.
If you prefer a portable version, look for the "Portable" download option that runs without installation.
Is the Windows app safe?
Yes! LeedPDF is digitally signed and the full source code is available on GitHub. Some antivirus software may flag new apps as potentially unwanted—this is normal for less common applications.
LeedPDF doesn't connect to the internet, access your personal files outside of PDFs you explicitly open, or collect any usage data.
What about Linux support?
LeedPDF is now available for Windows and Mac! Linux native app is planned for a future release. For now, the web version works great on Linux and all other platforms.
Since LeedPDF is open source, the community can also contribute platform-specific builds. Check the GitHub repository for community-maintained versions.
How do I install the Mac app?
Download LeedPDF from the Mac App Store by clicking the "Download on the Mac App Store" button. The app will install automatically and appear in your Applications folder.
You can also find LeedPDF in Launchpad or search for it using Spotlight.
Are the native apps safe?
Yes! LeedPDF is digitally signed and the full source code is available on GitHub. The Mac version is distributed through the Mac App Store, which provides additional security verification.
LeedPDF doesn't connect to the internet, access your personal files outside of PDFs you explicitly open, or collect any usage data.
